Shanda: A Memoir of Shame and Secrecy
The word “shanda” is defined as shame or disgrace in Yiddish. Join Letty Cottin Pogrebin in conversation with Rabbi Shira Stern for a discussion of Shanda, which tells the story of three generations of complicated, intense 20th-century Jews for whom the desire to fit in and the fear of public humiliation either drove their aspirations or crushed their spirit.
The Federation Knosh and Knowledge series is held monthly and takes place at Hevreh of Southern Berkshire. This program is part of the Jewish Literary Voices series and is co-sponsored with The Jewish Book Council.
Masks are optional.
